Cardiac Surgery

Cardiovascular medical procedure is the claim to fame of medication concerning the careful therapy of pathologies identified with the heart and thoracic aorta. The range of current cardiovascular medical procedure can be perceived by its set of experiences starting toward the finish of the nineteenth century.Since then heart medical procedure created through crafted by various committed specialists offering an ever increasing number of therapies for different cardiovascular pathology. This improvement is as yet continuous today.

Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery (CABG)

Coronary Artery Bypass Graft surgery or simply CABG what is also known as Bypass surgery is one of the commonest performed cardiac surgical procedures around the world. CABG is done for patients with Coronary Artery Disease to bypass the blocked arteries in order to restore the blood flow to the muscles of the heart or myocardium.

Indications of coronary conduit sickness may incorporate, yet are not restricted to, the accompanying :-

Chest torment

Weakness

Palpitations

Strange heart rhythms

Windedness

CABG can be done by two methods (a) Off-pump or Beating Heart surgery & (b) On Pump or conventional CABG. Off-Pump CABG or Beating Heart surgery is done without the support of Cardio Pulmonary Bypass Machine & this method is preferred now worldwide. We do nearly all our CABG surgeries in Beating heart Technique which not only yields excellent results but also is cost effective and patient recovery is very fast.

In CABG surgery Grafts or conduits are used which are patients own arteries or veins taken from other body parts. We prefer arterial grafts as their patency rates are naturally better than the vein grafts. Left Internal Mammary Artery (LIMA), Right Internal Mammary Artery (RIMA) & Radial artery are the preferred conduits.

Usually the total hospital stay for CABG surgery is 7 days including 1 day pre-operative & 4 to 5 days post-operative stay. By 4th to 5th Post-operative days the patient should be comfortable, fully mobilized & eating well and is planned for discharge from the hospital.

Patients are fully mobilized before discharge from the hospital. After 1 week of surgery the patients are able to do their own daily works and by 6 weeks after surgery the patient can return to work.surgery the patient can return to work.

Thoracic Surgery

Thoracic surgery deals with surgeries of lungs , airways , chest wall & diaphragm. We do all types of thoracic surgeries like Decortication, Lobectomies, Pneumonectomy, Hydatid Cysts Of Lungs, Lung Tumors, Eventration Of The Diaphradm, Diaphragmatic Hernia And Chest Wall Reconstruction after trauma or tumor excision etc.

Vascular & Endovascular Surgery

Vascular surgery as a speciality is available in very few hospitals where a vascular surgeon is available round the clock for vascular emergencies. We perform all types of peripheral vascular surgeries like Peripheral arterial bypass grafts, Vascular repairs for trauma, Pseudoaneurysms repair, arterial aneurysms, AV malformations, Arterio-Venous fistulae for Hemodialysis access etc with very high success rates.

VALVE SURGERY

Heart is a pumpimg machine that pumps blood to all the organs of body tirelessly for our entire life. To maintain uni-directional flow of blood our heart has 4 valves : mitral valve , aortic valve, tricuspid valve, pulmonary valve. These valves are sometimes affected by rheumatic heart disease, infections or by age related changes and are damaged to the extent that affects their function to maintain the unidirectional flow of blood and result in stenosis (narrowing) or regurgitations (leak). These patients present with symptoms like breathlessness, cough, swelling in the legs & abdomen, chest pain, palpitations, giddiness etc. After clinical evaluation chest X-ray, ECG, 2d Echocardiography is done to reach a diagnosis. After diagnosis is made initially the patient is managed with medications to reduce the symptoms. But if after optimal use of medications the symptoms still persist then the patient needs the diseased heart valve to be replaced with an artificial heart valve by Valve Replacement Surgery.

2 types of Heart valves are used for Valve Replacement Surgery.

(a) Mechanical valves or Metallic valves

(b) Bioprosthetic  valves or Tissue valves.

Mechanical valves are preferred in individuals younger than 65 years of age. These valves are designed to last for lifetime.post-operatively the patients need be on blood thinners or Anti-coagulant medications, restrict eating Green leafy vegetables like Cabbage, spinach & all types of saag and need to check Blood PT/INR in regular intervals.

Bioprosthetic valves or Tissue valves are preferred in patients above 65 years of age. The lifespan of these valves are about 15 years, patients don’t need to take blood thinners or anticoagulants, don’t need to have dietary restrictions and don’t need to check Blood PT/INR.

Usually the total hospital stay for Valve Replacement surgery is 7 days including 1 day pre-operative & 4 to 5 days post-operative stay. By 4th to 5th Post-operative days the patient should be comfortable, fully mobilized & eating well and is planned for discharge from the hospital.

Patients are fully mobilized before discharge from the hospital. After 1 week of surgery the patients are able to do their own daily works and by 6 weeks after surgery the patient can return to work.
